Getting a new board!

Got these pics from John up at Cole Surfboards showing me a new board that Cole is shaping for me. There is a lot of cool new technology happening with surfboard shaping right now and this particular blank from my buddy Matt @ Prop Surf has a "quadrabolic" stringer meaning there are 4 stringers on the outside rails of the board as opposed to the traditional single stringer down the middle.

The idea behind this is that as you do a bottom turn you load the board with energy and as it comes out of the turn the energy releases from the board giving you more speed down the line. And speed is your friend when surfing! The energy transfer is very similar to the way a snowboard or ski will flex through the apex of a turn and then give you that pop as you come out of the turn.

So far this board looks amazing and I can't wait to try this thing out, Cole just needs to put his touches on the board and then off to the glasser it goes. Shouldn't be too long until it completed, Thanks Cole!

Singe Speed Cyclocross World Championships

As you may have read in an earlier post, our buddy Dennis @ Eclectic Home in Portland but a deal together for Maku to sponsor the Lounge area of the World Single Speed Cyclocross Championships.

What are the World Single Speed Cycloross Championships you ask? Well, mix a bunch of PBR which is one of my favorite beers by the way (my wife is gasping that I have actually admitted this in public forum... hahhaa!) a limitless supply of local Portland Micro Brew, 140 contestants, a tequila shortcut, a golden speedo, some muddy terrain, single speed bikes, and you have the making for a great contest!!

By the looks of it, I'm going have to start training for next years race and get in on the fun!!

Click here for a great recap of the races from Bicyclenorthwest.com and here for a full list of the winners from cycling news.

Congratulations to the winners!

Wendy Williams

W.R.O.N.G. - World Riders of the Next Generation!

First off a Big Thanks to all the Veterans out there that have so bravely defended our freedom and the democratic process!

Not that this has much to do with furniture, but a nice sunny fall day in Maku'ville and the groms having the day off from school for Veterans day made for a great skate session on the ramp here at Maku HQ. Check out their t-shirts - W.R.O.N.G. - World Riders of the Next Generation!

Fun was had by all and these guys were killing it!

Maku on cover of Decor & Style

Greetings from Maku PR!

I think most of our close friends know this already, but for those who we have not had the opportunity to bump into during the course of the last two weeks, I wanted to let everyone know that Maku is on the cover of the July issue of . Johnny and I are both extremely excited about this as it's our first cover for Maku. Inside we have a nice little picture of the arm dining chair, along with credit info for our two SD retailers, Mixture and Grounded .

Special thanks to D&S's Georgette and Nadia, who have helped champion Maku internally over there.

More good things to come from Maku in the news.
